IT: Chapter 2 Casts James Ransone As Adult Eddie

James Ransone will officially join the Losers' Club after being cast as adult Eddie Kasbrak in next year's It: Chapter Two. He will star alongside Jessica Chastain, the only other confirmed cast member, aside from Bill Skarsgård, who will again play Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

Andy Muschietti's adaptation of Stephen King's IT was a massive hit last year. Not only critically successful, the movie managed to break box office records, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated horror film everIT tells the story of a group of ragtag children living in the fictional Derry, Maine who task themselves with destroying an evil entity residing in the town's sewers. However, given that the child-eating creature hibernates for 27 years until its next feeding, the sequel will revisit the child characters from the original movie as their older selves returning to their hometown to finish what they started. James Ransone will team up with Chastain's emotionally conflicted Beverly Marsh as the asthmatic and mysophobic Eddie Kasbrak.

Ransone revealed the casting news via his private Twitter account, according to Consequence of Sound (whose members of staff also host the Stephen King podcast aptly titled The Losers' Club). He tweeted that he would join the cast, while also joking that people keep the news to themselves. Perhaps best known for his work in HBO's The Wire, and after recently starring in Steven Soderbergh's interactive app/miniseries Mosaic, Ransone will don decidedly more neurotic mannerisms in the sequel. He said:

“Well, it’s official. I will have these very big small shoes to fill. Keep it to yourselves…”

Apart from Ransone and Chastain's casting announcements, James McAvoy and Bill Hader are in talks to join the sequel as the Losers' Club leader Bill Denbrough and jokester Richie Tozier, respectively. Though nothing has been confirmed for the actors, production on the sequel is expected to begin this summer, so casting ought to round out fairly soon. The only other members of the Losers' Club left to cast are Mike Hanlon, Stan Uris, and Ben Hanscom.

Though the reputation for most horror movie sequels aren't traditionally revered, It: Chapter Two stands a chance at being one of the few exceptions. Considering it's not only based off of King's beloved (and epic) novel, but won't end up spawning a series of unwarranted sequels, a la the Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street franchises, audiences appear to be in good hands. Also, considering the caliber of talent it's attracting, this horror sequel may well be as triumphant as the Losers were in their fight against Pennywise last summer.
